Nestled in the southern region of Guanajuato, Mexico, is Tlalixcoya, a small town, a place of cultural richness and vibrant community spirit. Tlalixcoya embodies the essence of Mexican heritage and serves as a testament to the resilience and pride of its people.

This serves as the backdrop to my story. Justin Canelo here, a fellow Mexican living in Illinois. I was not born in the U.S., my roots trace back to Guanajuato, and it was in Tlalixcoya that I spent my first couple of years alongside my parents and grandparents. The challenges faced by my old hometown, particularly those related to its infrastructure such as the decaying roads, breaks my heart to see the place I grew up in decay away. With both my passion for drawing and architecture, I hope to raise awareness and funds to help the community that raised me.

The town's road infrastructure is especially lacking, affecting the safety and accessibility of its residents such as the many elders that live there like my dear grandparents. Through my architectural drawings and this fund, I aspire to reimagine and revitalize Tlalixcoya.

One specific road that I want to tackle is the refurbishment of Insurgentes, a pivotal road for 32% of the town. However, I will be not tackling the whole road but instead focusing on the most important part of the road.

Anyways, using Matterport, I've documented the whole road's current conditions, providing a glimpse into its challenges, from rocky terrain to numerous potholes. Feel free to explore the 3D scan at this link:

Insurgentes spans a total of 305.5 feet in length, 10.6 feet in width, and a depth of 3 inches, I estimate the cost of asphalt paving to range between $70,000 and $170,000 MX Pesos. This includes factors such as crushed stones, equipment, and labor costs.

But I do hope to partner with the local government to help in funding for the road, your donations will be a way for you to help our town. All donations will be used to pay for all expenses in improving the road infrastructure.

If you want to help a small town in dire need of better road infrastructure feel free to donate to this campaign.
